Andrew Garfield to play Spider-Man

Don't know much about what they're planning on doing. Heard lots of ultimates talk and more hip. Egads!!!! I sure hope not.

No alarm bells ringing from this casting, though I kind of wonder why they'd cast another 26-year old actor in the role if the focus is, as they've said, on the high school years. Hard to get excited about this knowing it's still in Sony's hands and Ultimate is apparently a big influence (look for a full minute of staring into the spider's eyes before it bites Peter).

If they use SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN (animated series), now, that's a whole different ballgame...

I read on SHH that they were going to college now not high school. I'm not up with ultimate Spider-man. Big difference from the one we grew up with or just trying to be hiper?

Don't kids still attend high school these days? I can't think of a worse scenario than a studio change to make Spider-Man more "hip." Can you post a link? Hadn't heard this.

It was a guy on Shh that posted it. Said he heard it. If I can ever get back on Shh I nab it.

That guy better hit the gym. Also what's wrong if they follow ultimate spidey? I read the first few issues when they came out and it didn't seem bad at all?

Too much Mary Jane too soon, too much navel-gazing and not enough action, poorly re-imagined villains, and poor pacing (took six books to do the same thing the original story did in a single issue--with lesser results). Will wait to see how this develops but I'd be a lot more encouraged if SPECTACULAR--which took the best of the movies and combined it with the best of the books while still keeping it fresh--was the influence.

Thanks for the link, CJ. McWeeney is not prone to spouting b.s...although he is surmising as well, and Tobey was 25 when they cast him as a high schooler, so we'll see. If MJ cast as a leading role, abandon ship.

Yeah I agree, they should stay away from MJ. Gwen is a key that they missed the first go around.
